A simple wish!

I play a simple game with my little one. Making wishes on stars, pretty eyelashes and all such things.

The age of innocence is yet to leave and I get to hear all pure little lovely thoughts!

The wishes are so simple they melt my heart.
I hear him wish for things like, " MUM gives me an extra kiss before bedtime ", as we get ready for school, a wish that I don't miss the school bus. Such little things make me laugh as I cuddle him and tell him it will come true.

His wishes have been such simple one's like me coming home early to spend time with him, getting to watch his favourite cartoon on TV, he playing a good tennis session, eating an extra bowl of his favourite fruit. There is nothing materialistic in these wishes, just daily basis things that make him happy.

Only children who are all so pure can have such clear thoughts. They don't relate to any toy purchases or gifts from parents, their happiness lies within them as they do those little things that please them.

I wish we can be the same but as we grow we all change!

MUM you need to be a Sportsgirl!

My little boy all of 6 years, is a tennis champion! His aspirations are simple...become a super player...his idols are all sportsmen, his cousin a super football player who has the coolest NIKE shoes and his DAD.

The discussion are intense on players, points scored, play strategy and rankings! All conversations which I am definitely not a part off!

But it doesn't end at Tennis yet, there are other sports as well. So there is football matches and related tournaments, there is cricket and IPLs. The knowledge expands to cover all sports brands, their logos and even sponsorship...a very vast information base if I may say for that age.

The discussion with friends are also on sportsmen ranking, play techniques used and life goal ambitions to become a sportsman and mini quizzes on sports brands.

How do I fit into all this? Through a step by step strategy...he has one day decided his MUM needs to be a "Sportsgirl" rather than asking him questions which he regards as highly silly!

"Mum, I will teach you cricket, there are two players and they have a bat in their hand. They need to stand behind the line called a crease and hit the ball.Got it?" says the little one as my husband looks on with a surpressed laughter!

I am zapped as I calmly tell him, I understand cricket. "Cool", pops out another question on which I am totally clueless.

" See I have to teach you to become a Sportsgirl", end of conversation!

Welcoming Lord Ram to our House

My little one is a religious soul.He believes in the power of God but rather than considering him to be a revered figure for him God is more of a friendly soul.

So, these days his close friend is Lord Rama...who in most conversation is addressed as " You know what Ram did?" This is generally popped up after every new episode of the mythological series he watches with his grandparents.

He insisted on buying him a bow & arrow like Ram uses...which is promptly corrected and addressed as Ramji😀.

He would discuss with me in deep discomfort about what evil thing did Kaiki Ma do, and how Bharat & Laxma love Ram...all the heavy duty Hindi is replaced with easier to converse explanatory words as he narrates the incidence.

Since he so much enjoyed watching Lord Rama we also scouted for an appropriate "Moorti" for our home temple as coincidentally Lord Ram was the only God statue we didn't have.

After loads of searching his grandfather got him a lovely glittering Lord Ram Darbar - ie a statue of Lord Ram with Sita & Laxman.

Little Boy, actually got grandma to make mithai to welcome Lord Rama, did the Diya in the temple and said a welcome prayer☺

The best part about all this was after keeping Lord Ram's Darbar in the temple he told all the other God Statues; "Look who has joined you, your friend Lord Ram, welcome him and make him have a comfortable stay." This was followed with instructions to Lord Ram, " Enjoy your stay with us, rest tonight and you can chatter with your friend God's tomorrow. "

A pure heartfelt conversation. The next morning he did walk up to the temple to check if Lord Rama was comfortable in his new house.

Only a pure hearted child could have such an exchange. We as adults have a fear of being mocked if we talk our heart. A child's innocence is incomparable!

A fascination for Cars!

A boy and his fascination for cars is common knowledge, but the extent to which this love goes is beyond comprehension.

We have a collection of cars, all possible types of car, big car, small car, remote control car, push cars, all possible colour cars. The drawers and toy baskets are spilling with cars. Anywhere around the house you can spot a random car, on the bed, on the sofa, in the kitchen...

At 5, these children know all car logos, can compare cars and also have an opinion on which car to buy.

On birthdays the best gift is considered to be a car, other toys discarded as too complex to play.

The favourite films feature exclusive flying cars in cool sleek colours.

Reaction on seeing cars vary from awesome to aww to superb or its soo cool...

Its just some in built gene in them that attracts them to cars and all things associated with it.

A known joke is how the boy dotes over his prized possession and willingly breaks up with the girl who makes him choose between the car & her. No second thoughts here 😀!

A New Year Gift

My little one is an extremely appreciative boy. He thanks you from the heart for all the little things you do for him. And these are genuine heartfelt thank you messages that he conveys.

As the new year started we walked down to the nearest toy store to pick up gifts for his friends birthday.

In all innocence he promises me that there will be no tantrums for any toys for himself as he has just got a Christmas gift but asks me for permission to touch  and checkout the toys.

Knowing fully that he really wants to buy some new little car toy for himself I take him along.

Very happily he explores the store showing me things he likes, telling me of the different occasions I can buy it for him but never once insisting to buy one right away.

As I pick up a couple of toy cars and ask him which one he wants he squeals with joy asking me if there is a occasion to buy it now.

I tell him it's a New Year Gift and delighted he picks one.

On our way back home, he looks up to me smiling and asks me..." Can you see the smile reaching all the way upto my cheeks?" As I nod my head and acknowledge he let's me know it's the happiness he feels for having me as mummy ☺

My Faith...

So my little one is a strong believer in God...as in a friendly person who looks out for him.

There are God's of his age & Mummy Papa God's. Kannudo and Ganesha are his friends who play pranks like him and get scolded by Mummy God for being naughty but are basically good and friendly boys.

Papa God's are Ram Bhagwan, Shankar Bhagwan who destroy evil people like Ravan and protect us. So they are the big people who take care of us.

So on Maha Shivratri we actually walk up to Ganesha and ask him the surprise he has planned for his papa.

The other day we ended up with a conversation with Krishan bhagwan telling him that we have a surprise for you on his birthday telling him to look there and then pulled out a peacock feather  key chain with loads of excitement . It was a genuine happy delightful moment.

Luv Kush are the new favourites with their  antics and a little jingle of Shiva. The faith is so strong as they are more of friends that God that we consider them.

Yo Man!

Everything thing is Yo !!!

Yo mummy...will do this...Yo, I need this! Yo...dad...this is kwel...😊

Welcome to the new lingo world, picked it up from my elder brother. Also, now I am photo bombing all my family pictures with a Yo shot!

I enjoy saying Yo instead of yes since its more kwel sounding. And I think everything else sounds very "Rubbish".

My parents are amused, caught them with a smile on their face when I chatter away! But yo they share my enthusiasm when I rock n roll. I have my on little rap with "Yo & Mamma Miaa".

A hilarious little fellow I am and keep checking with my mom..." That was funny n, you think I am really funny". Not sure if mom laughing at my jokes or at my conversation, but Yo...she laughed !

Dance to My Tunes

Music is Life!

I hummm as I walk...I don't talk...I sing..."Mummmiiieee". My actions are musical. ..my conversation is like a song.."Papa looook..." or " Pleaseee mummy" 😊

So my boy likes music ...all kids do I assume...but a nursery rhyme by a 5 year old is far more entertaining when sung while at work...the words are a little jumbled, the tune a bit haywire but the enthusiasm over the top.

He croons Bollywood songs & hymns with same happiness. Likes being updated on the songs though... so favourites change every month.

His actions coordinate with the song...so if on the way for a wash..its banno tera swagger..if it's changing clothes...its mei superman...if it's calling out to me. .. its hello hello...I end up giggling on all this silliness.

He likes it if I put him to sleep with a song; so I have this old Bollywood hit song.."phoolon ka taaron ka" with my remix version from him..it delights him when I sing this for him.

He totally entertains with his lovely voice with mismatched words😊

He shares his new rhymes with me, so a good night hymn prasing the Lord or thanking him for all the wonderful things around is a must before we sleep.

He makes up his live jigs also..with Hindi English mixed and calls himself Michael Jackson!!!

Tennis a Developing Passion

Pursuing a sport teaches you more than what studying a book can. When you sweat it out in a field you learn to compete in a fair manner, without any biases.

My son, started playing tennis at a young age.He was introduced to the game at the age of 4 by an over enthusiastic father. Now both father and son religiously discuss grand slams and I am obviously not included in those conversations much to my dismay!

But, thanks to this our child has developed innumerable qualities which, he otherwise may not have picked.

Tennis has bought focus in his approach, teaching him to concentrate. It has built his confidence and inculcated a desire to win & excel. He looks forward to the schedule and drill associated with it, thereby respecting the teaching of his coaches. He has become active and enjoys exercises. Competition's excite him and he strives to win.

He knows all the current tennis players with their rankings and conversations vary from the players back hand style to their serve style!

He has also built a strong circle of friends which include people in the age group of 30 - 50 years who cheer for him everytime he plays. These friends are my husband 's tennis partners and my little one is their ball boy on non play days.

He loves his tennis racquet and shoes and dresses up like daddy on court.

I really appreciate my husband for introducing our child to the "The Game of Tennis!"

My frien Kannudo:)

I like Bheem a lot..Enjoy watching the cartoons & repeats on TV.But these days I also enjoy hearing stories about Kanna and his friends.

My favourite story was about how little Kanna would steal makhan with his friends and then everybody would come and complain to joja maiya (my little one's way of addressing yashoda maiya).

The glitter in his eye everytime  I told this story was unmistakable, as if he had in mind to steal some from the nearby houses himself ☺.
Although he is more of a curd theif than makhan!

For Janmashtmi my mother got a peacock feather designed box...so this little boy walks upto the temple in the house, hiding the box behind him.He innocently walked up to the Lord Krishan diety and goes," Happy Birthday Kanna, I have a surprise for you. Look there and boo...pops out the box from behind with a huge cry of surprise...your birthday gift."
Looking at this pure exchange of love left me amazed.

Only a child can relate to God in this unique manner, treating the Lord more as a friend rather than an avenue to attain things.

Habits that I have picked up from my parents!

They observe and really observe hard picking up little habits and frequently used phrases which are then appropriately used when the occasion demands!

My little fellow strategically uses," Now nothing can be done!"

Point out a mistake that he has committed, a little delay in reaching for appointments, missing out carrying stuff for outings are emphatically met with one statement - Mummy,ab kuch nahi ho sakta! :)

Several habits they unconsciouly pick up, so you really have to be cautious about what you speak around them!

A lovely Poem

My son enjoys dance and music a lot...a small poem that he has been singing recently -

Have you found your sunshine smile?
Wherever you will go,Gods goodness you will sow...
So,have you found your sunshine smile?

If I look at him and tell him...yes the smile is right here...there is a delight in his eyes...

Pure innocence reflecting in his happiness as he is the reason for my smile!

I learnt to Cycle!

My boy is a big boy! You suddenly get this realization when he progresses from a tricycle to a big cycle and finally instructs you to remove the side support wheels :)

So this fellow in all enthusiasm seeing one of his friends driving on two wheels instructs me on immediate basis to execute the task of removing the support wheels of his cycle, even though his feet don't touch the floor!

But mama, I am a big boy and can manage so please!!!

The process begins-

The ride is punctuated with squeals and laughter and lots of screams and don't let go pleads, followed by hold me, let me drive fast and wow....I am driving on my own!
This warrants lots of congratulations, kisses, hugs and the final show off session to papa...see I can drive :)

How he loves the independence and the fact that he has picked up cycling!

There are many such things which he would eventually learn, each followed by the same level of enthusiasm, but as of now, he is so happy with his current achievement :)

Like father,like son :)

I always thought my boy was more attached to me...but I just realized apart from the looks of his father he has also adopted his fathers mannerisms, eating habits, sleeping habits,TV habits and all other habits you can think of!

He wants to dress like the father, drive a car like the father and even taken to sports like his father so he may win medals like his father...

He looks upto his father for everything...opinions & thoughts.

Recently my husband was a part of stepthon a walking initiative of 10000 steps per day.My son, took to observing the pedometer to monitor the daily steps, following his father here and there & then started telling me "we still have 3000 steps left for the day",encouraging me to walk along :)

When my husband dresses for his cricket practice my little hero needs the same attire down to the colour of the socks!

He wants to put on his dad's cuff links, shoes and drive down to town.

Dad is the one who teaches him about car's, sports and many such tidbits where I am totally clueless...

But the best part is I am included in the family hug time...so you know he loves me as well! :)

Formal Schooling Begins

My son starts his formal schooling years...enters the routine of school dress, school bags, black polished shoes, bus and all things related to it...

I am apprehensive, oh very much but is my boy loving it? Thrilled is the word! There is an excitement each day as he begins early in the morning :)

School has bought about lots of positivism and knowledge & understanding for things. He has never been a fussy eater and now he is all the more careful as he has learnt the basics of JUNK food and HEALTHY food.

Lots of fun activities include the bus journey, bus snack, colouring in school and new friends.

The associated school extra curricular activities also make him happy and overall he is having a grand time!

Hope this happiness continues throughout or maybe once the homework starts the body aches and tiredness start :)

My Friends...

My boy has a best friend,a brother friend,a good friend...and several other categories of friends...but they all his friends!

Childhood friendship is such an amazing thing, its just so pure & innocent.Their games are silly but so funny....hugging & crushing, throw & fetch, mummy & baby, hanging from bars like a monkey to become a tall boy, cycling and all time favourite car race.

I fail to understand the relationship between boys and cars, but you leave a bunch of them together and you're free for hours :)

He meets in friends in school and the chit chat starts right at the time of boarding the bus...with so many important things to discuss about the day gone by.

Evenings are spent running around here & there, playing, hearing stories from one of the mom's or cycling...a peaceful existence with friends!

Life's joy...our friends...the best part about childhood days!

I am 3!!!

My boy is 3 years, time flies...He is so big now, understanding n number of things, having his own circle of friends & trying to take his own decisions, provided his bossy mother doesn't interfer.

He is developing his vocabulary and makes a complete attempt to converse with us in high end English and ends up sounding adorable.

He has an opinion about things & wants to be a part of all our conversations...wanting to know this & that.

Everyday with him leaves me amazed as I wonder where did he learn this from or whom did he pick this up from.

He & his set of close friends have their own set of coversation & important discussion wherein we are not privy of the same....

How they grow up so fast has left me amazed...he doesn't fit into my arms any more...my little tall boy!

Stoi Time...

I have a bed time ritual with my son wherein I read out a story to him or make up one for his benefit...
Till a long time I wasn't sure if he comprehend anything I said but I still told him a story each night. The stories always had the same beginning and I included characters and things he liked.

Now that my son is two and started talking I realize he knows all those stories and makes an attempt to tell me those.

So its..."mama stoi...kai (car) stoi..gogie(a cat with the name gorge),bus stoi, topas(Thomas engine) stoi sunnao."
He makes himself comfortable in my lap,"mama dodhi" and starts of as "ek barr.." waiting for me to complete the same.

These story sessions are the best cuddle times we have together...

My First Day at School

My little boy starts school today. He is so excited about it as I dress him up in his little white uniform. He is thrilled to have a new dress to wear and dances around on the bed in enthusiasm. As I pack his bags, he wants to check out everything. I write his name on his ID card and try to pin it up on his dress, he doesn't like this as it is spoiling his new clothes. He pulls and throws it away as I smile down at him. I help him put on his white socks and clean his shoes till they shine, prim and proper he is all dressed for school.

As we leave for school, I am a bit nervous and apprehensive. I will be leaving  him alone with a crowd of strangers. As he settles down in this new environment, he will build new friends and new confidates. A favourite teacher to guide him along the way and take care of him as I am away. He will pick up many new things at school and learn many new lessons, develop new habits and engage his curosity to the maximum. Away from home, in a new world my son will grow and become a new person.

Each day as I ask you what did you learn today, you may shrug your shoulders and walk away or excitedly share with me some stories for the day. I look forward to all these moments and hope you have a lovely and fun filled journey ahead.

I walk you down to school and you give me a little peck on the cheek as I carry you along. I love you my little boy and together we being a new phase in your life singing our favourite song..."Lets go to the school, learn some lessons!!! La La La....Lets go to the school right now!"
